CONTROL METHODS USD BY 1ST 4 PIGEON CONTROL LONDON

Area outside hospital wards, both cleaned and netted by 1st 4 Pigeon Control London

Every bird Problem is different and will usually demand a survey to assure that the correct proofing, cleaning and safety methods are employed.

A free site survey will be carried out, if the work is accepted a risk assessment and method statement will be produced to help protect you, your building, your staff, your employees, the general public, 1st 4 Pigeon Control London's employees and the environment. Advice on hygiene issues will also be offered.

Various factors will affect the determination of the pest bird to perch or nest at a specific site; this can include the presence of food, shelter, the availability of other roosting sites, the direction that the building faces and the prevailing wind. These pull factors will need to be taken into consideration when deciding upon the most appropriate form of deterrent.

Roosting pressure is divided into three categories, low, medium and high, with the correct techniques, low roosting pressure is the easiest to control.

1st 4 Pigeon Control London can either carry out a one off job or provide a maintenance contract the site can be visited two times a year to assure our work has not been damaged; if there are any problems they will be rectified.

For work that can not be carried out off the usual access equipment, an abseiling team can be deployed.

Control methods include

  • Bird nets / mesh: These physically prevent access to high pressure roosting sites; they are one of the most successful and long lasting humane methods of control. The nets can be supplied in different colours to match the background. Good quality nets, wires and fixings ensure longevity and excellent aesthetics

Before, damaged netting in Brighton
After, new netting and spikes on the leading edge

  • Point or Spike systems: These are humane deterrents used against pigeons or Gulls at medium to high pressure sites; they are excellent at restricting access to edges, ledges, gutters, pipes and sills
  • Sprung Wire: This has excellent aesthetic qualities but is only useful for low pressure sites, they are tensioned steel wires fixed via a post, either drilled or if required stuck, to ledges and leading edges, they can also be used to deter pigeons landing on pipes
  • Shooting and scaring: These are recognized methods of bird control but need to be carried out regularly to gain long term control, unless employed with other systems
  • Trapping: This can be very effective, skill and training are prerequisites for success, follow up treatments may be required to assure ongoing control
  • Transparent plastic strip curtain doors: These prevent access by birds but allow traffic flow in and out of a loading area, they also help prevent heat loss

In addition to the above a comprehensive cleaning program will be employed according to your needs. Whole areas including lofts and derelict buildings can be cleared of pigeons, their droppings and any contaminated waste. Walls, floors, ledges and beams can be cleaned using safe detergents or pressure washers.

Biocides and insecticides are employed to help restore a healthy environment. The waste is disposed of with a duty of care.
